Week 1:Jan. 25
I learned how to write a Log-E news, which is a short point (about a paragraph long) about an upcoming event. I learned what’s important to include in this, and what’s not important. I learned that in APA style, the time comes before the date.
Week 2:Feb 1
This week I started my first press release, which was about the After Thoughts featuring Caroline Boswell. I followed the same format as the previous press releases on After Thoughts, so I didn’t have too much trouble. The only trouble was getting a hold of Prof. Boswell (but it’s the the beginning of the second semester, so I can’t complain). I also got my portfolio set up.
Week 3:Feb 8
The major thing I learned this week was that a comma does not appear in a series before the word “and.” For example, ‘I enjoy writing poems, stories and press releases.’ This is according the APA style in a newspaper style writing. Working on a press release for the Last Lecture series, and trying to get a hold of Lucy Arendt. Just as I did in the After Thoughts, I followed the same format in the Last Lecture Series from last semester. I also edited a few things for the Log-E news. I started putting my press releases in my portfolio.
Week 4:Feb 15
This week I put together a story for the community service, and how many students and hours were dedicated in the 2014-15 academic year. I also included Campus Cupboard and Campus Kitchen stats in this as well. I am starting to get the hang of writing in a more professional field verse personal blog style. by this I mean I am making it so it’s not written in a way where I’m trying to be personal with the readers. I am also working on getting some Alumni stories together. I think with time she will have to edit my work less. Usually what’s edited is simple mistakes such as being too wordy or not enough info. But I have been going back to compare what I wrote to how she edited it, so that I don’t make the same mistakes.
week 5:Feb 22
I didn’t get any works fully completed this week except one. I have been getting features done on Alumni’s and the winner of “Once” songwriter/singer competition. I conducted an interview with a few members of the Campus Cupboard, which is sponsored by the UWGB Pride Center. I will finish these features next week. I am starting to really enjoy writing in a news fashion.
Week 6:Feb 29
Having some trouble trying to think of creative, eye catching titles and intros. Some trouble with transitioning. I conducted my first in-person interview with two students for the Campus Cupboard. At this point, I have done a few interview via email for the “Once” competition, and Community Service.
week 7: Mar 7
Got assigned for a few more features that would involve an interview. Been editing several things now for Sue. Sports lingo is hard for me to pick up. I got my name mentioned as the writer of a feature for Lane Lee the winner of ‘Once.’
week 8: Mar 14
Not as much work for me to as I’m awaiting for interviewee’s to respond to my emails. Just editing
